‘Keeping the Planet Cold’: Canada Goose celebrates the industry’s next generation of changemakers with immersive exhibition in partnership with Central Saint Martins at London Fashion Week

London, February 17 2023 – Today, Canada Goose and Central Saint Martins are launching a thought- provoking and inspiring new exhibition that brings to life their shared vision for a better future. Inspired by the brand’s purpose, ‘Keeping the Planet Cold’ tells a story of how we can shape the world through creative action and purpose driven design.

The exhibition, which is open to the public for five days during London Fashion Week, shines a light on tomorrow’s fashion designers and creatives, and showcases an immersive curation of outerwear pieces, lifestyle objects and mixed media portfolios that represent sustainable design through the lens of the next generation.

“This exhibition is a true source of inspiration and a ray of hope for the future. There is so much potential this generation have to offer, not only in terms of creative talent but also their unwavering commitment to join us in helping to transform the industry to tackle climate change and protect our planet,” said Penny Brook, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer at Canada Goose. “At Canada Goose, we are dedicated to our HUMANATURE purpose to keep the planet cold and the people on it warm. We have the passion and resources to set new standards, to take responsibility, to create impact beyond our organisation and we are passionate about teaming up with likeminded partners like Central Saint Martins to help shape tomorrow.”

Fabio Piras, Course Director, MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins added: “I am delighted with the fantastic outcome of the project with Canada Goose, 'Keeping the Planet Cold". The students of BA and MA Fashion and BA Fashion Communication have responded with creative provocation, debate and potential solutions across garments, media and objects that are as challenging as they are beautiful.”

Taking place at Central Saint Martins’ Lethaby Gallery in Granary Square from 17th to 21st February, ‘Keeping the Planet Cold’ showcases projects by MA Fashion and BA Fashion & Communications students who have worked in close partnership with Canada Goose during the academic year. The exhibition has been curated by leading fashion historian, curator and Professor of Fashion History and Theory at Central Saint Martins, Alastair O’Neill, together with set design by the MA Architecture academics.

The MA Fashion Students were invited by the performance luxury brand to design sustainably-led capsule collections, inspired by research scientists at Polar Bears International (PBI), a non-profit focused on polar bear conservation based in Churchill, Manitoba. PBI and Canada Goose are longstanding partners, having been working together on various initiatives since 2007. BA Fashion and Communication students were briefed to design objects using Canada Goose warranty product to support the circular economy.

Among the work on display at the exhibition are a selection of MA student designs that stood out as exceptional to a judging panel during the project partnership including capsules by Arianna Ablondi Pedretti, Chie Kaya and Jacob Yakubu Stapleton. They all demonstrated a deep understanding of thefunctional needs of the PBI team, while also incorporating a sustainable design approach with bold and creative innovations. BA student designs that came highly commended included a Secret Tree Quilt, a Canadian Reminiscence swimwear collection and Nuna the multifunctional Earth Creature and bag.

The partnership with Central Saint Martins builds upon Canada Goose’s purpose platform, HUMANATURE, which unites its sustainability and values-based initiatives, underscoring the brand’s purpose to keep the planet cold and the people on it warm. The brand continues to set aggressive and ambitious commitments to strengthen its communities, protect the planet, and work towards a better future for generations to come. As part of its Sustainable Impact Strategy, a key focus of the platform, Canada Goose is committed to net zero emissions by 2025 and ceased manufacturing with fur at the end of 2022.
