THE DROP: BLK ODYSSY – HEARTBREAK
Texas-born BLK ODYSSY returns with ‘HEARTBREAK’, a bold release that sits at the crossroads of soul, rock, and indie-pop. Following the moody textures of ‘WAVES’
On the surface, ‘HEARTBREAK’ sounds like a plea for love finally realized. Beneath it, though, there’s something deeper. “It sounds like a song about love and loss,” he says, “but when we wrote it, I was thinking about something much bigger… it felt like our whole country had a broken heart.” What unfolds is both personal and political — a call for empathy in a time when connection feels scarce, and a reminder that heartbreak can be collective too.
Written alongside Mikky Ekko and Zac Farro of Paramore, the track represents a full-circle moment for BLK ODYSSY. “I remember being in high school, obsessed with this girl who loved Paramore,” he recalls. “So getting to sit in a room with Zac years later, writing this song, felt unreal.”
The production glows with its chant-like chorus. It’s a stadium-ready sound that still holds weight at its core.
