THE DROP: EGO ELLA MAY - “WE’RE NOT FREE”

Award-winning British-Nigerian singer-songwriter and musician Ego Ella May shares her latest single “We’re Not Free”, the second release from her forthcoming and highly anticipated sophomore album, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2020 debut “Honey For Wounds”, due in early 2026.

“You’re not free ‘til everyone else is,” Ego sings, a tender reflection on today’s political and social landscape. Produced alongside South London musician Melo-Zed, the track blends lush instrumentation with an urgent message.

“I wrote this song about trying to distance myself from the realities of what is happening in the world, and realising it’s impossible,” Ego explains. “What affects one person, affects us all — it’s our duty to care about the lives and well-being of others.”

With hints of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, “We’re Not Free” channels a spirit of social consciousness, a reminder to stay hopeful, hold power to account, and nurture community.
