THE DROP: hutch - “never like the first time”
Tirade World presents Hutch, a 24-year-old British singer, songwriter and pianist whose debut single “Never Like The First Time”, released on Deep End Recordings, signals the arrival of a bold and compelling new voice in contemporary music.
Never Like The First Time is a song about survival — and the cost of it. It’s Hutch at his most raw: soulful, self-reflective, and unafraid to face the darker corners of his story.
“‘Never Like The First Time’ is about chasing a sense of relief and purpose that I used to find in turbulent things, places and people,” Hutch explains. “It’s a song reminiscing on my past self — and the reasons I was always on the hunt for something more intense or destructive. This song is brutally honest and tells some uncomfortable truths, but it all stems from a time when I wasn’t feeling seen or heard for who I truly was. Realising that at the core of what I was chasing was connection, unity and positive relationships - I just didn’t know what that looked like at the time.”
His sonic palette draws influence from artists like Anderson .Paak, Little Simz, Loyle Carner and RAYE, musicians who blend precision with vulnerability, while his grounding comes from jazz greats such as Oscar Peterson.
Growing up in the suburbs of Brighton, Hutch found his first obsession in jazz piano, but when music’s sense of belonging slipped away, chaos took its place. Addiction, disconnection and self-destruction followed, until he made the decision to start over. At 21, he moved to Crawley in search of stillness and honesty, rebuilding both his music and his life from the ground up.
