Jumbi Presents: A six-week celebration of culture, music & community with SubSkate, a custom skate rink and dance platform

. This summer, the team behind Jumbi Peckham presents SubSkate: a bold new evolution of their community-rooted vision, taking over a neighbouring warehouse in the heart of Copeland Park for a six-week art, music and culture residency from 11 July to 19 August.

Built on the same foundations that have made Jumbi one of London’s most respected hubs for sound system culture, food, music and connection, SubSkate is both a continuation and an experiment. Curated by the Jumbi team alongside a handpicked group of collaborators, the 1,000-capacity Peckham warehouse space transforms into a modular, multi-use venue designed for celebration and cultural movement.

By day, SubSkate becomes an open rolling rink, emblazoned with art by global artist, Slawn, a space for skating, community and free expression By night, it shifts into a bass-reactive dancefloor where embedded subwoofers channel low-end frequencies through the floor, turning rhythm into architecture and making the dancefloor an extension of the sound system itself. To mark the launch, artist Slawn will create a bespoke visual intervention inside the roller rink. Alongside a Peak drinks mood bar, brand ambassador and collaborator Slawn will be creating a bespoke piece for the roller rink and teasing something special to come - his presence sets the tone for a summer of art-meets-movement.

Keeping  the space accessible for young people is a must, with weekday daytime skate sessions before 6 pm will be free for under-16s, from 26 July through to 17 August. It’s part of Jumbi’s wider commitment to nurturing future generations of skaters, dancers, and creatives.

Driven by Jumbi’s community-first ethos, SubSkate will host a packed summer programme of DJ sets, takeovers, live performances, talks and gatherings. Key cultural dates such as Colombian Independence Day and South Asian Heritage Month will be celebrated, spotlighting diasporic voices and changemakers. Throughout the space, historic sound systems from London’s nightlife legacy will be installed with support from Passa forming a living homage to the city’s rich audio heritage.

.This summer also marks Jumbi’s third birthday, with the milestone being celebrated during the residency later in July, a moment to honour the people, sounds and spirit that have shaped the space since day one. Collaborators already confirmed include Resident Advisor, Just Jam, Recess, Pxssy Palace, Colour Factory, Ochi, Oatly, Peak, and Do You!, with a full lineup of summer events to be announced.

SubSkate is a statement of intent: a living experiment in how sound, food, movement and collective energy can be harnessed to create new cultural spaces. Rooted in London’s diasporic nightlife and connected to global conversations, all just steps away from Jumbi’s original home.

SubSkate launches Friday 11 July with a fundraiser featuring performances from DJ Travella, Oblig, Kemarr*, Saige Sounds, Kacie, jungle legend M-Beat, DJ Miracle, Ian McQuaid and of course Tim & Barry. The full lineup is TBA. Proceeds will go to charities Arts Emergency and Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
