MONKEY SHOULDER RECORDSCURATED BY DJ TARGET, KATY B, DJ ARTHI AND SEVEN ICONIC UK RECORD STORES AT KEF MUSIC GALLERY LONDON

To celebrate World Music Day (21st June), Monkey Shoulder Whisky is curating the ultimate listening experience. Fusing the best elements of a record store and listening bar, Monkey Shoulder Records is a crate-digging playground featuring DJ legends, state-of-the-art audio technology and premium cocktails at KEF Music Gallery London, alongside a collection of vinyl handpicked by seven of the most influential record stores in the UK.

Monkey Shoulder Records opens its doors on Tuesday 17th June in Central London. Highly respected grime pioneer DJ Target, dubstep queen Katy B, and Dancefloor filler DJ Arthi have curated an exclusive ‘vibe-only’ vinyl collection for the KEF listening rooms –which are kitted out with premium, high-fidelity architectural speakers, subwoofers and one even houses KEF’s flagship MUON loudspeakers.

Working with the UK’s vinyl elite, seven legendary shops with an extensive knowledge of genres, have each curated crates based on love, sweat and years of music knowledge. From hip-hop to grime to deep electronic beats, Honest Jon’s (London), Eastern Bloc (Manchester), Klang Tone (Stroud), Strip Joint (Glasgow), Digger’s Club (Cardiff), Sister Ray (London) and Swordfish Records (Birmingham) will provide the soundtrack to the luxe-listening bar spot.

Monkey Shoulder have crafted exclusive whisky cocktails to pair perfectly with the records expertly chosen by the super-selector team of talent and record shops. The innovative menu pays homage to the country’s most-loved genres from blues and jazz to hip-hop and pop. It’s a full-sensory experience — sound, sip, and style all turned up.

“Concepts and spaces like Monkey Shoulder Records showcase the pleasure of listening to vinyl – and I’m here for it! Through DJ’ing, I have a vinyl background, and you really can’t beat finding your perfect record, taking it out of the sleeve, and placing it on your turntable. Just hearing that little crackle at the start of the track gives me goosebumps!”
— Author and founding member of the chart-topping group Roll Deep, DJ Target

Hourly listening sessions at Monkey Shoulder Records will take place at KEF Music Gallery London (42-48 Great Portland Street) from 12.30pm to 17.30pm on Tuesday 17th June. To sign-up, please visit KEF's website .

“Searching through and selecting my top ten Monkey Shoulder Records inspired me to write a new song ahead of my upcoming album! In my vinyl crate, I’ve chosen songs that are meant for the club (my happy place) but also ones that have a rich, sonic experience.”
— Katy B

Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM are also on the star-studded line-up, providing an exclusive pull of global gems to celebrate their ongoing partnership ‘Studio Monkey Shoulder’ designed to spotlight international grassroots talent. And if you miss your chance to experience a daytime session, DJ Target and Arthi will hit the decks in the evening, from 6.30pm until 9.30pm, and exclusive access is based on a first-come first-served basis for the lucky attendees. To discover DJ Target, Katy B and DJ Arthi’s top ten trackshead to the Monkey Shoulder YouTube page now.

I’m excited to share my inspiration and evolving journey into music. In my crate, there’s stuff I don’t normally get to play in my sets and chosen specifically for the listening bar environment. It was really fun to curate for this cosy space with such incredible sound. I can’t wait for you all to hear my choices!
— DJ and choreographer, Arthi Nachiappan
The resurgence of listening bars and record store culture has inspired us to create Monkey Shoulder Records. Having DJ Target, Katy B and Arthi, alongside a host of record stores sharing centuries of music knowledge, whilst enjoying delicious cocktails in KEF’s ultimate listening experience – it’s a must-visit for music fans this summer!
— Stephen Reynolds, Head of Marketing at Monkey Shoulder said
